The daughter of a Baptist pastor, born in Ft. Worth, TX and reared in

Bloomington,IL.. Glenda Shenelle Taylor began her remarkable musical

journey by singing at the age of 4 and playing the piano at 6!

 

In 1986, Glenda became a member of the newly founded JOY Tabernacle

Church, under the pastoral leadership of Dr. Michael P. Williams and the

musical leadership of the late Thom Harris. Her gifts soon made room for

her as she became JOY’s first organist, a dynamic lead vocalist and

director of the Voices of JOY!

 

Glenda was a featured lead on two JOY album projects;“All The Way With

The Lord!” and “ Lord, Build This House!”. Her voice has been intimately

connected to JOY’s impacting music ministry on radio, television, albums,

compact discs and in live worship.

 

Minister Taylor released her solo project, Lord, I Wanna Thank You!

anchored by two songs ( “Do You Want To Be Healed?” and “Grace”)

written by award winning composer V. Michael McKay. She has shared the stage with such Gospel music luminaries as the late Andre’ Crouch, Sandra

Crouch, “Twinkie” Clark, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Walter and Edwin

Hawkins, Kurt Carr, Phil & Brenda Nicholas, Candi Staton, Beau Williams,

Anita Wilson, Shawn & Rhonda Mclemore, Michael Dotson, Oscar Williams

Jr., Patrick Lundy, Kyle Kelley, Chris Watkins, Kathy Taylor, V. Michael

McKay, Rickey Dillard, Stephen Hurd, Beverly Crawford and numerous others.

 

Glenda is an active member of the National Convention of Gospel Choirs

and Choruses ( NCGCC), founded by the late Thomas Dorsey. She serves

as Music Director for the Houston chapter and on the national level as a

featured vocalist and Board member for the Alumni Choir.

 

Minister Taylor has served on the full-time ministry staff of JOY, as the Executive Director of Helping Others Pursue Excellence (H.O.P.E.) and Principal of the Banneker-McNair Math/Science Academy (BAMA).These were both social ministry outreaches of JOY Tabernacle.

 

At JOY’s latest ministry outreach, The Genesis Church, Glenda serves as Worship Pastor (with responsibility for Music, Arts & Media) and as the Senior Pastoral Leader. In this role, she is responsible for the leadership and coordination of all Genesis Helps Ministry leaders.

 

Minister Taylor holds the Bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston,

the Master of Education from Prairie View A&M University and is pursuing

the Doctor of Education (Ed.D) at Walden University.. She is employed by

the Houston Community College System as an Advisor/ Case Manager for Student Support Services at the Northeast College.

 

Glenda is the mother of two sons; her oldest is a graduate student in Business & Accounting at the University of Texas-San Antonio and her youngest is a freshman at Georgetown University ( Washington, D.C.) Glenda never forgets to honor her beautiful ninety-two year old mother, Mrs.Dewey Gaither, who is a constant source of wisdom and inspiration.
